PVYSC teams show well in state leagues

Paper Valley Youth Soccer Club saw three new teams accepted into Wisconsin Youth Soccer’s State League competitions this fall, with all three playing well enough to hold their places for the next season.

They joined two experienced clubs who will also hold their place.

The newest entry on the girl’s side proved they were more than up to the challenge by finishing atop the table in their division. The Neenah Velocity finished first with in the U13 Girls First Division

– Red with a record of 6-0-2.

That record may earn them promotion to the Premier Division.

Joining Velocity as a league winner was the Neenah Nutmeg; one of the club’s more experienced state league teams. The Nutmeg, coached by Duke Behnke, finished first in the U16 Premier Division with a record of 7-0.

Also playing on a the Premier level were the U14 Neenah Red Wave coached by Tom Wanamaker. The Red Wave finished in the middle of the table this fall with a record of 2-3-3. They should retain their place in the top league.

The youngest of the group was the U12 Neenah Wizards, coached by Jim Schmidt. The Wizards finished 6th in the U12 Boys First Division with a record of 3-5-0 and should retain their first division place for the upcoming spring season.

While the team was new to state league, many of the players on FC United ’96 have played in state league for several seasons. Combining the Neenah Elite with players from NEW United ’95 produced a seasoned team that finished third in its division with a 6-2-1 record. Whether it will be enough for promotion into the top flight remains to be seen.

Those teams will be joined this spring by several boys teams who have enjoyed a long run of success at the state league level.

PVYSC’s representation in State League competitions is a credit to the many hours spent by volunteer coaches, players and parents. It’s quite a feather for PVYSC to be so well represented at that level of competition and the board of directors salutes the efforts of all the involved.

Care for Coaches

If you have signed up to coach for the upcoming 2009 season, or are interested in doing so, there are a couple of things we need to take care of. The first is getting a state pass card.

Applying for this passcard serves as your background check. The club covers the costs and the entire process can be done online. Special note: it works even faster if you have a digital picture of yourself to upload. The starting point is:
Click here for information. if you have questions, please contact club administrator Sean Johnson at secretary@pvysc.org.

Not sure if you know enough to coach? There are some upcoming courses for new courses and we will pay the fees for you to attend. Most parent-coaches will need what is called the G or Y1 licenses, which requires a three-hour class. For a schedule of classes, please see Click here for Classes . As members of PVYSC, your cost will be $0.

Fundraising Opportunity

For classic teams, fundraising is an ongoing challenge. One of our club coaches has come up with an opportunity that could help lessen the burden on parents and players.

Lynn Hesson is the owner of Raven Manufacturing LLC, a company that produces candy products. As coach of the Neenah Inferno, a U13 Coed team, Hesson put together a package under the Pop’rs product line to see if his team could sell them.

The end result was $500 raised in one weekend to help pay for team expenses. As a result, Raven has put together a program that other teams can use. It features the Pop’rs line, which are an exploding seasoning for food that are fortified with vitamins. The seasonings pop and sparkle and come in a variety of flavors: butter, taco, buffalo, cinnamon, cocoa, colorburst, raspberry and strawberry. Raven has added several other items to their fundraising line since then.
