PVYSC Classic Team Tryouts 2010

This year East Central made some changes to the tryout process so please is sure to read below. The biggest change pertains to when offers can be made. PVYSC will conduct tryouts the week of June 21 but offers cannot be made prior to June 28.
All this information is also posted on the PVYSC website.

The policies governing tryouts provides detailed information on the classic team selection process for this year. Again this year we will follow the 40/60 process for scoring - 40% coaches evaluation and 60% tryout evaluation.

U10 Development is a program that is open to U9 and U10 players to allow them to play U11 competitive soccer. It is recommended that players play at least one year of U10 recreational soccer before considering this option.

Tryouts for classic teams will be held beginning June 21. All tryouts will be conducted at Memorial Park-Neenah, Field #2.

Payment and Fees

Fees for tryouts consist of two parts:

$25 non-refundable tryout fee (paid online). This fee will be $35 if registering after June 18 or on-site.
$100 player registration fee. This fee, along with the medical/Liability waiver and player registration form should either be mailed in prior to tryouts, or hand delivered on-site. Mailing Address: PO Box 173, Neenah, WI 54957-0173.

Tryout Registration and Paperwork

While we are trying to keep paperwork to a minimum, there are a few items you will need to make sure are completed prior to the tryouts:

1.    Tryout Registration A late registration form - with information on increased fees - will be available after the June 18 registration deadline.)
2.    Medical/Liability Waiver. All Players must complete this form for tryouts, even though they already have a form on file with their existing team.
3.    Player Registration Form
4.    Birth certificate for age verification. (Bring this to check-in.)

Marti Coan U7/8 Coed

PVYSC gave me my coaching start way back in the “80’s” starting with a U8 coed team. It’s good to be back! I hope by sharing my years of experience to help the coaches, players and parents learn and love the game as much as I do. I am also serving as secretary for PVYSC.

Tom Wanamaker - U 7/8 Girls

Tom began playing soccer in high school in 1977 at Creighton Prep in Omaha. He attended University of Wisconsin where he had hoped to walk on to the Badger soccer team until he was recruited onto the rowing team. Since graduation, he played pick-up soccer and has competed indoors and outdoors in various men’s and coed leagues.

Tom began coaching after graduation and has coached high school boys for 22 seasons and high school girls for six. He will start his 19th season as the head boy’s coach at Appleton East H. S. this fall. He has coached his kids’ teams in the PVYSC since 1997. He currently coaches his daughter’s team, the U15 Premier League Neenah Red Wave.

He holds a USSF “D” license and a National Diploma from the NSCAA. He has been a board member since 2001.

Referee Corner from Mike Jones:

Many questions have been asked about casts, weather, & what to do when officials don’t show. Here are the answers to each of those issues:

Cast:

No casts (of any type), splints or braces (except for the knee) will be allowed. Knee braces must be sufficiently padded and approved by the referee. This is to be followed at all age groups. Referees,
DO NOT let anyone play with a cast. Something happens, you are liable.

Weather:

Here are some guidelines to follow on handling contests during lightning disturbances:

1.    When thunder is heard, or cloud-to-ground lightning bolt is seen, the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location with lightning. Suspend play and take shelter immediately.
2.    Thirty-minute rule. Once play has been suspended, wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or flash of lightning is witnessed prior to resuming play.
3.    Any subsequent thunder or lightning after the beginning of the 30-minute count, rest the clock and another 30-minute count should begin
4.    Referees & coaches, work together on this. DO NOT PUT ANYONE ON THE FIELD IN HARMS WAY.

What happens when only 1 or 2 of the 3 referees show for a game?

The Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association has informed all Districts that any game utilizing two whistles is NOT a sanctioned game. (One Whistle Referee System is MANDATORY (approved 11-15-08)) It is imperative that all East Central scheduled games be controlled by a one-whistle referee system. It is also required to have three referees for each sanctioned game (U10 & above), whether they are registered or a non-registered “Club Linesman”. The center, or head, referee must be USSF registered. Therefore, what should you do when a three-man system is scheduled and one or more of the referees do not show up for the game? All options are predicated on utilizing a center/head referee that is qualified for the level of play.

1.    Recruit a qualified registered referee from the spectators and proceed with the usual methodology of a three-man system.
2.    Recruit a “club linesman” from the spectators. Therefore modify the three-man system as follows

a.	Instruct the “club linesman” to only signal when the ball goes over the touchline or goal line. The club linesman may not signal or call any fouls or infractions.
b.	The “assistant referee” (AR) will continue to signal fouls, offside, and balls that go out of play as usual.
c.	The “center referee “will modify his diagonal movement to maximize his/her visualization of the “assistant referee”, and work more to the side of the club linesman.
d.	Reimbursement: Registered referees will receive the pay for the position (Center or AR) that they actually work. No referee, center or AR, may be paid more than the amount set by East Central/WYSA.
e.	Club Linesmen may not be paid as part of the referee crew.
f.	If the game is at the Classic level, and a registered level 9 referee is recruited to help as a linesman, the level 9 referee may not be paid as part of the referee crew, and should not wear a uniform or badge. A level 9 referee may only be used as a non-paid club linesman that can only assist with signaling that the ball has gone over the touchline or goal line. When recruiting a club’s lineman preference should be given to a level 9 referee, over someone not registered as a referee at all.
g.	At the conclusion of the game, the center/head referee is responsible to return any unused referee fees to the coaches/manager of each team, when less than three registered referees are used.
h.	The coach is encouraged to donate the unused referee fees to the club linesman. Any fees not used to pay for the referees are to be returned to the club.
i.	In the situation where none of the available registered referees are qualified to work the center referee position for the level of play, the game should be cancelled and rescheduled. The scheduled “assistant referees” should be paid the appropriate fee.

Valley Volunteers from John Jackson: Flatgrass

THANK YOU Flatgrass volunteers!! By your efforts, the 2010 Flatgrass Showdown was great success! Over 130 teams participated in this year’s tournament with over 2,000 players and over 450 hotel rooms booked in the valley which is a boost to the local economy. Despite the colder than normal temperatures and the threat of snow in mid-May, it was an outstanding turnout. The Flatgrass Regional Showdown is the #1 fund raiser for our club which helps support the recreational program with fields’ maintenance, referee fees, and equipment along with referee fees for the classic league teams.

In addition, Flatgrass hosts teams from all over Wisconsin and the surrounding states that come and stay in Fox Valley area. It is estimated that the financial impact of Flatgrass on our local economy is over $220,000. This benefits local businesses, restaurants, and shopping centers all around the Fox Valley.

What’s New: Team Pictures

SMILE, It's Picture Day

Picture day is rapidly approaching for PVYSC teams.

Team and individual player picture dates are scheduled for June 8 and June 9, beginning at 5 p.m. each day. Pictures will be taken in the Conant Gym at Neenah High School.

Team Coaches and managers will have specific date and time information for pictures. If you have not received this information, please contact your team manager or coach.

Please remember - no cleats are allowed in the school or gym for pictures.

Registration Summary for 1986:

Paper Valley Soccer Club has 1009 players registered with the U.S. Soccer Federation and the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association. These players represent 64 teams: 17 Red, 34 White and 13 Girls. The East Central Wisconsin League has 2,869 players registered, representing 60 Red and 111 White/Girls teams. (from the July/August 1986 Newsletter NO.21)
